The brief
Arborescence Montessori, a pre-school set in 13 acres of woodland at the Scout Centre in Well End, Borehamwood, approached Eric to film an introductory video for prospective parents. A genuine change of pace, this shoot was as enjoyable to film as it looks on screen.
The brief from the school’s head was straightforward but genuinely important: giving prospective parents information and a real feel for a unique, semi-rural pre-school, quite different from a typical nursery setting.
The finished video needed to work as the school’s primary admissions tool, on a timescale that suited a small, busy pre-school.
The approach
Working to a brief from the school’s head, the priority was capturing the genuine woodland setting, the woodpeckers, squirrels and horses in nearby fields that make this pre-school so distinctive.
Rather than a generic pre-school tour, the aim was a video that helped prospective parents understand:
- What makes a Montessori, forest-based approach genuinely different
- The character of the setting itself, semi-rural and rustic
- The warmth and care of the teaching staff on camera
- Why this environment suited a child’s early development
Filming took place across four hours on site, capturing children and staff in their natural environment.
Production
The project involved a genuinely rapid turnaround from first shot to signed-off first draft. This included:
- Filming on location, capturing children and staff in their genuine woodland setting
- Delivering the first draft directly to the school’s marketing team for review
- Capturing the small, distinctive details that set the pre-school apart, from the forest setting to the sense of freedom it offers children
- Working to a fast, efficient process that suited a small pre-school’s time and budget
Throughout, the aim was matching the relaxed, natural spirit of the school itself in how the project was delivered.
The result
The finished video gave Arborescence Montessori a genuine admissions asset, ready to sign off on the very first draft.
The marketing team said they were delighted with the product, exactly the response a small, independent pre-school needs from a video that has to work hard for every enquiry it generates.
By combining fast, efficient production with a genuine feel for the setting, the project proved that quick turnaround and real quality are not mutually exclusive, exactly what a small education client needs most.
Why this project worked
This project shows what’s possible on a genuinely tight turnaround, four hours of filming and six hours of editing, without cutting corners on quality or missing the real character of the place being filmed.
