The brief

Arborescence Montessori, a pre-school set in 13 acres of woodland at the Scout Centre in Well End, Borehamwood, approached Eric to film an introductory video for prospective parents. A genuine change of pace, this shoot was as enjoyable to film as it looks on screen.

The brief from the school’s head was straightforward but genuinely important: giving prospective parents information and a real feel for a unique, semi-rural pre-school, quite different from a typical nursery setting.

The finished video needed to work as the school’s primary admissions tool, on a timescale that suited a small, busy pre-school.

The approach

  • What makes a Montessori, forest-based approach genuinely different
  • The character of the setting itself, semi-rural and rustic
  • The warmth and care of the teaching staff on camera
  • Why this environment suited a child’s early development

Production

  • Filming on location, capturing children and staff in their genuine woodland setting
  • Delivering the first draft directly to the school’s marketing team for review
  • Capturing the small, distinctive details that set the pre-school apart, from the forest setting to the sense of freedom it offers children
  • Working to a fast, efficient process that suited a small pre-school’s time and budget

The result

Why this project worked

This project shows what’s possible on a genuinely tight turnaround, four hours of filming and six hours of editing, without cutting corners on quality or missing the real character of the place being filmed.
