The brief
Cripps Leadership Advisors, a global executive search and leadership advisory firm founded in 1973 with offices in London and Houston, wanted their team to present with genuine confidence on their own podcast. Rather than a generic media training day, Eric was asked to build a proper, hands-on course around real podcasting skills.
The brief called for something practical rather than theoretical, a session built around actually finding a voice and using it, not just a slide deck on public speaking.
The training needed to leave the team genuinely equipped to launch and sustain their own podcast, not just talk about doing so.
The approach
Working from four core pillars, understanding your audience, shaping your message, developing your voice and practising with purpose, the session was built around real podcasting skills rather than generic presentation theory.
Rather than a lecture-style day, the training gave participants hands-on experience in:
- Finding a natural, credible presenting voice through recorded practice introductions
- Vocal warm-ups, breathing technique and pacing, the often-overlooked basics of sounding clear and confident
- Structuring a podcast episode with genuine focus, using templates and small group work
- Interviewing and media skills, including how to handle difficult topics with bridging and redirecting techniques
The second day moved into interviewing and media skills specifically, role-play exercises let participants practise interviewing, being interviewed and giving peer feedback, building genuine confidence handling a live conversation.
Production
The project involved delivering a genuinely full training curriculum across two days, not a single rehearsed workshop. This included:
- A full podcasting setup provided on the day, including microphones and recording software
- Listening exercises analysing contrasting podcast clips, sharpening participants’ sense of tone and audience
- Recording short podcast segments, played back for genuine group feedback and reflection
- A closing summary video capturing the training in action, for Cripps to keep and share
- Personal delivery throughout, rather than handing participants off to junior trainers
Throughout, the aim was removing the mystery around podcasting equipment and process, so launching or contributing to a podcast felt genuinely achievable by the end.
The result
The finished session gave Cripps Leadership Advisors a genuinely confident, practically trained team, plus a video summary capturing the energy of the two days.
Eleni Young, Marketing Manager at Cripps Leadership Advisors, said the training was met with great feedback and enthusiasm, with Eric helping the team understand audiences, shape their messaging and develop their presenting style, bringing his own equipment throughout.
By combining genuine practice with real equipment and honest feedback, the training gave a global leadership advisory firm the confidence and the tools to launch their own podcast, not just a certificate for attending a course.
Why this project worked
This project shows what podcast training looks like when it goes beyond theory, real practice, real equipment, and real feedback, delivered over two full days rather than a single afternoon workshop.
