The brief
The Audentior Awards celebrate the people, groups and organisations making a real difference across Watford. Organised by the Elected Mayor of Watford and the Chairwoman of Watford Borough Council, the awards recognise community champions nominated by local residents.
Rather than filming the ceremony itself, I was commissioned to produce a series of nomination videos to introduce the finalists during the live event. Each film needed to tell an individual’s or organisation’s story in a warm, authentic and engaging way, helping the audience understand why they had been nominated before the award was presented.
The videos needed to be informative, emotionally engaging and consistent in style, while respecting the unique contribution each nominee had made to the local community.
The approach
Each nomination film began by understanding the nominee’s story and the reasons behind their public nomination. The aim was to create a series of short films that celebrated their achievements without feeling over-produced or scripted.
The focus was on helping the audience understand:
- The positive impact each nominee had made within the community
- The personal stories behind each nomination
- Why local residents had chosen to recognise their contribution
- The diversity of people and organisations being celebrated across the awards
Although every story was different, the films shared a consistent visual style and narrative structure, creating a cohesive experience throughout the awards ceremony while allowing each nominee’s personality to shine through.
Production
The project involved producing a collection of professionally filmed nomination videos for screening during the live awards ceremony. This included:
- Planning and coordinating filming with multiple nominees
- Conducting interviews that encouraged natural, authentic responses
- Filming supporting footage that illustrated each nominee’s work and community impact.
- Editing each film into a concise, engaging story suitable for presentation at the awards.
- Delivering a consistent series of videos that reflected the values and community spirit of the Audentior Awards.
Working closely with the organisers throughout the production ensured every film accurately represented the nominee while maintaining a unified look and feel across the entire programme.
The result
The finished nomination videos became an integral part of the Audentior Awards ceremony, introducing each finalist and providing the audience with a deeper understanding of the people and organisations being recognised.
By combining thoughtful interviews, carefully planned visuals and sensitive storytelling, the films helped celebrate the achievements of Watford’s unsung heroes in a meaningful and memorable way. The videos supported the live event while also creating lasting content that could continue to showcase the positive impact these individuals and organisations have within the community.
Why this project worked
This project demonstrates how professionally produced nomination videos can add depth and emotion to an awards ceremony. Rather than simply announcing finalists, the films gave every nominee a voice, helping audiences connect with their stories and understand the impact of their work. For public sector organisations, community awards and corporate events, this approach creates engaging content that enhances the live experience while leaving a lasting legacy beyond the event itself.
